At Start Small Think Big (“Start Small”), we believe that access to high-quality legal, financial management, and marketing services is an essential part of starting or growing a successful small business, especially for small business owners who are currently lower income. We are a nonprofit organization that focuses on pairing entrepreneurs positioned to grow their businesses with top pro bono attorneys as well as financial and marketing experts.

The Start Small Marketing and Sales Program assists small business owners with a range of marketing and sales needs. On the marketing end, our aim is to assist small business owners in building a marketing infrastructure for their business (a brand identity guide, marketing collateral, digital presence), and for more advanced businesses, support them in developing a marketing strategy for their business (SEO, Online Advertising, Website Audits, and Strategic Marketing Plans) by connecting entrepreneurs to marketing experts who can assist them for FREE. One the sales side, we aim to identify new and varied sales opportunities that can help our businesses increase their revenue and support their readiness for various distribution channels.

This entry level position offers a unique opportunity for a skilled and highly motivated individual who has an interest or background in marketing and communications, to use their talents to assist under-resourced entrepreneurs in accessing the marketing support they need for their business.

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum Degree Required: Bachelor’s degree

  • Strong interpersonal skills including ability to effectively communicate with entrepreneurs and work constructively with colleagues.

  • Interest in teaching in marketing and entrepreneurship.

  • High level of computer proficiency including familiarity with Google Applications, social media (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram), and MS Office.

  • Experience with website content management systems a plus (such as Squarespace, Wix, Wordpress, etc) a plus.

  • An interest in helping underserved communities

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the recruitment and on-boarding of new marketing volunteers. This includes developing, and at times teaching, various targeted marketing workshops, scheduling one-on-one consultations with an expert, and finding professionals for project placement.

  • Interview entrepreneurs as part of the intake process, assess marketing priorities for the business, and assist in finding the right volunteer match for their needs.

  • Assist the Program Director with logistical and creative aspects of organizing corporate events, including volunteer meetings.

  • Use our data management software, Salesforce, to record and manage all aspects of entrepreneur’s relationship with Start Small Think Big.

Duration: 12 months

Stipend: $1,900/month
